Irish Music Concert to Benefit the People of Haiti

Syosset, New York, March 9, 2011 – Traditional Irish musicians Mary Courtney and Morning Star will perform at a concert to be held on April 2, 2011 at 4pm at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY. The concert will also feature a special appearance by dancers from the Hagen School of Irish Dance in Long Beach, NY.

All proceeds from the concert will go to support the efforts of the International Vincentian Family to help the people of Haiti improve educational opportunities for their children and create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families after the earthquake.

Morning Star is a popular New York-based band playing traditional Irish music at concerts and festivals around the country. Mary Courtney, Morning Star’s lead singer, guitarist, and bodhran (Irish hand-held drum) player, hails from a large musical family in Co. Kerry, Ireland. All the performers are donating their services to help Zafen, a program founded by the International Vincentian Family to provide microfinance loans to small entrepreneurs as well as give financial support and scholarships for education in Haiti. The International Vincentian Family includes the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers, the Daughters of Charity, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the International Associations of Charity/Ladies of Charity, as well as other religious and lay associations.
